Since tomatoes are canned so quickly after harvest, the nutrients are locked in the can. That means MORE antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and because they always have a bit of salt added – 0.1% before they get canned, their beautiful tomato flavour is amplified.
Plus, it’s good to remember that you can freeze tinned tomatoes in a bag if you don’t use the whole tin at once.
Use canned tomatoes as a staple ingredient in sauces, soups, stews and chilis. Also try replacing ketchup with another canned tomato product or tomato paste. It tastes similar and contains less sodium and sugar.
